About HYFLY H167
The HYFLY H167 hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system
The HYFLY H167 system is a modular electric hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system with a buffer battery for load changes and load peaks. The high level of modularity ensures simple and efficient installation in virtually any type of aircraft and easy maintenance.
The HYFLY H167 hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system is suitable for ultralight aircraft, motorgliders and light-sport aircraft (LSA) as well as for classic medium-sized fixed-wing drones / UAVs or eVTOLs. The system consists of the spherical hydrogen tank, the fuel cell, a buffer battery, control electronics and the electric motor / inverter combination.

PERFORMANCE
The prototype H167 system delivers a take-off power of 70 kW, making it a fully-fledged replacement for conventional combustion engines (such as the Rotax 912) for ultralight aircraft, motorgliders and LSA.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
With a spherical tank holding 7 kg of hydrogen, a similar flight duration can be achieved as with conventional combustion engines, far beyond what is possible with battery electric systems. Depending on the aircraft configuration, a total flight duration of up to 7 hours can be achieved.
SAFETY FEATUREs
The H167 system fulfills all currently valid requirements according to LTF-UL. With regard to the use of hydrogen, the necessary certification requirements are currently under development. Here, the requirements from the automotive sector are being used and adapted if necessary. In addition, some self-developed safety devices are being tested.
MODULAR DESIGN
The system is characterized by a high degree of modularity and can be flexibly integrated into a variety of aircraft types, including ultralight aircraft, motorgliders and LSAs, but also drones / UAVs and eVTOLs. This modular architecture proves to be particularly valuable both for integration into newly developed aircraft types and for retrofitting existing aircraft.
One Solution For Every Light Aircraft
The HYFLY H167 hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system not only offers technological
innovation advantages, but also opens up an enormous market potential. In a global
environment in which aviation must increasingly switch to emission-free propulsion, the
H167 system represents an efficient and environmentally friendly propulsion solution for
ultra-light and lightweight aircraft.
Zero CO2
For a clean future of aviation.
Zero emissions. Maximum efficiency.
Low Noise
Fly quieter, live better. Low noise. Considerate. Future-oriented.
Long Range
More range, more possibilities. Go far. Without emissions.
The HYFLY test carrier DS-2C/HY
The DS-2C/HY test aircraft for the H167 hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system is based on a prototype of the Dornier DS-2C, which was made available to HYFLY by Dornier Seawings.
With the registration D-MFLW the aircraft already served as the test aircraft for type certification during the development. Further modifications were then tested on this test aircraft before it was handed over to HYFLY.
After being taken over by HYFLY, the aircraft was extensively refurbished by project partner Kasaero and modified for use as a test aircraft for the H167 hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system.
HYFLY wins the Sustainable Aviation Award 2023!
HYFLY, a ZIM-funded collaborative project between Kasaero, PS-HyTech, Flying Ad and the Technical University of WĂ¼rzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS), has won the Sustainable Aviation Award 2023 in the category „Energy Sources and Propulsion Systems for Aviation“ at the AERO exhibition.
The award recognizes the project’s pioneering work in developing the first fully integrated hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system for light aircraft, which enables quiet and CO2-free operation with a long range, setting a new standard for sustainable flying.

About HYFLY
HYFLY is a cooperation for the development and production of highly modular electric hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems for sustainable aviation. After more than three years of development, the H167 system will initially be offered as an environmentally friendly propulsion solution primarily for ultralight aircraft, motorgliders and light sport aircraft (LSA) or medium-sized drones / UAVs and experimental eVTOLs. In the next step, systems with higher performance and certification as an aircraft propulsion system (equivalent to EASA CS-E / FAA Part 33) are planned for use in small aircraft (EASA CS-23 / FAA Part 23), small helicopters (EASA CS-27 / FAA Part 27), UAVs (EASA SC Light-UAS) and small eVTOLs (EASA SC-VTOL).
HYFLY is the result of a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) for the development of a fuel cell system for general aviation by the companies PS-HyTech, Kasaero and Flying Ad as well as the Technical University of WĂ¼rzburg Schweinfurt. Interested investors now have the opportunity to join HYFLY in order to finance the implementation of series production. HYFLY plans to present the H167 propulsion system at upcoming industry events and conferences and to further promote the use of hydrogen fuel cell systems as a clean propulsion solution in aviation through presentations on the topic of hydrogen as an energy source for electric flights.
